ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League- Quaid (PML-Q) MNA, Marvi Memon, on Wednesday, resigned from the National Assembly (NA) and also gave up her membership of PML-Q. Following approval of the federal budget by the National Assembly (NA), Marvi, on a point of order, announced to resign from her assembly seat as well as party’s membership in protest against the government and her party, which, she said, were working against the interests of Pakistanis and for that reason it was not possible for her to remain member of the party. She criticised the PML-Q’s decision to join the PPP-led coalition government and said that it had become difficult for her to be true to her oath. “I believe that PML Q, by relinquishing its role as an opposition party, has not lived up to the expectations of millions of voters, who reposed their trust in it in the February 2008 elections,” she noted Marvi said that she tried to prevail upon the party’s leadership to change the decision of joining the government, but in vain. “Now the only honourable course left open to me is to resign from PML-Q’s membership, and also as a member of National Assembly on the occasion of vote for the budget”, she added. – Dailytimes
