KARACHI: At least three godowns and five vehicles were completely destroyed while two others damaged when a fire broke out at truck stand within the remits of Mauripur police station on Wednesday.The officials said that fire erupted because of the chemicals stored in the drums near the parking of heavy vehicles that carry goods from Karachi to other parts of the country.The fire caused by the chemical soon engulfed the whole area and four godowns near the parking lot were gutted, fire brigade officials said.Fire brigade officials and tankers were able to control the fire after continuous efforts of atleast five hours, they added. Officials said that the fire was of grade-3 intensity. As per fire brigade officials three trucks (TLT-659, PKK-279 and SD-7016) were completely destroyed, adding that one motorcycle and a Suzuki pick up were also badly damaged. They further informed that goods worth millions of rupees were burnt with the godowns.Further investigation is underway. “It seems the fire was caused by the chemical but they are also looking at it with other angles,” Baha Uddin Babar, SHO Maripur said. No FIR was lodged till filing of this report. – Dailytimes
