ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People Party Chief Whip Syed Khurshid Shah on Monday informed the National Assembly that Rangers officials involved in alleged killing of a young boy in Karachi had been arrested and would be prosecuted under the law of land. He said that everyone including the President, the Prime Minister and the Parliament had strongly condemned the Karachi incident. “We have no authority to hang any culprit without following the law.The accused of Karachi incident will be punished under the law,” he asserted.He said the government had set up a commission in light of the unanimous resolution of the joint sitting of the Parliament to probe the Abbottabad incident.The PPP Chief Whip said the government had always tried its best to address issues raised by the Opposition and the Prime Minister always fulfilled his commitment made on the floor of House.He said, “We have implemented 90 per cent decisions of Charter of Democracy (CoD) and being a signatory of CoD, the Opposition should tell how much they have worked for its implementation”.He said the PPP believed in democracy and always respected the mandate of other political parties.Syed Khurshid made it clear that the PPP would support the Punjab government to get the budget for the fiscal year 2011-12 passed from the provincial assembly.“We will also give our suggestions to the Punjab government in the budget and will not leave it on the mercy of turncoats,” he added.He appealed to the Opposition to take active part in the budget session and give suggestions to the government in the interest of 18 million people.
The government would not only welcome positive suggestions of the Opposition but would also accommodate them in the budget, he maintained.He said the incumbent Parliament made its history by passing 18th and 19th amendments unanimously under which provincial autonomy was granted.He urged the Opposition to join hands against the menace of terrorism and help foil nefarious designs of those who were hatching conspiracies to destabilize this country.Speaker Dr. Fehmida Mirza in her remarks said that ensuring supremacy of the parliament was the responsibility of each and every parliamentarian.She said the Opposition had always been given time in the House to raise the issues of national interest. – APP
