Aiwan-e-Sadr remained open today to facilitate the people from all walks of life to offer condolences to President Asif Ali Zardari over the death of his father and veteran Politician Hakim Ali Zardari.

The President had decided to accept the condolences in view of the large number of requests from the people wishing to personally express their sorrow and grief with him. Federal and provincial ministers, members of parliament and provincial assemblies, politicians, PPP leaders and workers called on President Zardari and offered Fateha for the departed soul of late Hakim Ali Zardari.

Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and services chiefs also met President Ali Zardari and condoled the demise of his father Hakim Ali Zardari. Foreign diplomats including envoys from Muslim countries also visited Aiwan-E-Sadar and condoled with President Asif Ali Zardari. Briefly speaking on the occasion the president thanked all of them for sharing his grief. The President said he was a loving father who had supported us even in jails. The President said we all have to return to Allah one day. He said man is mortal, death is inevitable. People belonging to all walks of life senior government officials, representatives from civil society, intellectuals, writers and journalists, also visited Aiwan-e-Sadar. President Zardari met all of them individually.

Hakim Ali Zardari breathed his last at Pakistan institute of medical sciences, on the 24th of this month. Born in 1930 in Nawab Shah, late Hakim Ali Zardari played an active role in politics and served in various capacities. Besides serving as federal minister twice. He was a renowned farmer and industrialist. Hakim Ali Zardari started his political career in 1965 as member district council Nawabshah. During the 1965 elections, he supported mother-e-Millat Mohtarma Fatima Jinnah against the then president Muhammad Ayub khan and addressed several political meetings. In 1970, he was chosen as head of Zardari tribe in a convention and later elected member of national assembly from Sindh. He was considered one of the close associates of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. He also remained vice president of Awami National party. He contested national assembly elections on PPP ticket in 1970 elections and won. The late Hakim Ali Zardari also remained MNA in 1988 and 1993. He was also chairman of the public accounts committee in 1988. Raes Hakim Ali Zardari was jailed during general Musharraf’s regime and because of his illness, was treated at Ziauddin hospital, Karachi, which had been declared a sub-jail. – PTV
