ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said the government is taking all possible measures to enhance the capacity of national grid as well as increase the power generation.The effective policies of the government, he added, have helped reduce the energy shortage to a great extent. He declared that the government is holding the second energy summit to take all the stakeholders on board and formulate energy conservation strategy for this summer.The Prime Minister expressed these views while talking to Syed Naveed Qamar, Minister for Water and Power who called on him at the Prime Minister House Thursday afternoon.The Prime Minister asked the Minister to formulate policies to motivate foreign as well as local investors to invest in energy sector.
He maintained that Pakistan’s potential for renewable energy resources is immense and needs to be explored at the earliest to meet the growing energy demand. He stated that the government is soon going to launch small, medium and mega size hydro projects in the country to eliminate power shortage in the long run. The Prime Minister observed that due to participation in war against terrorism, Pakistan has suffered a lot economically. “Most of our foreign funded energy sector projects got delayed due to security situation,” he added.He pointed out that a number of friendly countries have expressed willingness to invest in this sector. The Prime Minister told the Minister about his successful meetings with executives of Three Gorges Company during his visit to China. The Minister for Water and Power apprised the Prime Minister about progress of various projects initiated by the Ministry of Water and Power. – App
