Handful of vicious elements not to be allowed to disturb peace in Karachi: President

ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari Tuesday said a handful of vicious elements will not be allowed to disturb peace and stability of Karachi, the country’s economic hub and all those involved in targeted killings and acts of violence will be brought to justice regardless of their affiliations.He was addressing the PPP Members of Provincial Assembly (MPAs) from Sindh here at the Aiwan-e-Sadr.The President strongly condemned the recent incidents of violence in Karachi and directed the concerned authorities to tackle the perpetrators of this heinous crime with iron hand and take all possible steps to maintain law and order in the Port city as instability in Karachi impedes business and economic activity in the whole country.

Those who attended the meeting included among others Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Minister for Religious Affairs Syed Khursheed Shah, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Dr.  Firdous Ashiq Awan, Advisor on Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr.  Asim Hussain, Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Qamar Zaman Kaira, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, Chairperson BISP Ms Farzana Raja, Speaker Sindh Assembly Nisar Khoro, Deputy Speaker Sindh Assembly Syeda Shehla Raza and Agha Siraj Durrani.About 70 party MPs and office bearers present during the meeting spoke on a host of issues including current political situation, coalition matters in Sindh, political re-alignment and party organization. They also raised developmental issues in their respective constituencies.

The President asked party workers and MPs to reach out to the people in far flung areas in Sindh and enhance contacts with voters of their respective constituencies as part of party’s preparations for the forthcoming general elections.The President took them into confidence on the recent political situation in the country and said that the party while pursuing Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s vision of reconciliation entered into coalition with other parties to strengthen democracy, state institutions and address the critical economic issues facing the country.The President also said that the fight against extremism and militancy will continue in cooperation with the international community.The meeting reposed full confidence in the leadership of the PPP Co-Chairman President Asif Ali Zardari. – APP
