LAHORE: Defending champions Pakistan WAPDA gave a big boost to their claims for defending the title by winning four gold medals on the opening day of the National Athletics Championship at Punjab Stadium here on Tuesday. WAPDA scored 122 points to top the points table besides winning five silver medal and one bronze medals. Behind WAPDA were their archrivals, Pakistan Army who won two gold, two silver and two bronze medals with 67 points.
Pakistan Air Force (PAF) were at third place with one gold, one silver and one bronze to get 31 points. Punjab took two bronze medals to get 13 points. Athletics Federation of Pakistan (AFP) president Mohammad Akram was the chief guest on the occasion and inaugurated the event at simple but impressive ceremony.
