Sindh government to convene joint vice chancellors’ meeting

KARACHI: Federal Inter-provincial Coordination Minister Mian Raza Rabbani said on Sunday that the devolution of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to the provinces was underway, while the funding to all universities would continue.In this regard, the Sindh government has decided to convene a joint meeting of vice chancellors (VCs) of all the universities of Sindh province.

Rabbani informed Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah at a meeting at the Chief Minister’s House.He discussed the devolution of the HEC and other federal government departments to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment.Rabbani said: “The students, who are getting education abroad under HEC scholarships programme, will not be affected.”He claimed that the vice chancellors of all universities of Sindh at an important meeting on Saturday fully supported the HEC devolution. The minister appreciated the performance of the Implementation Commission on the 18th Constitutional Amendment.He informed the Sindh chief minister that so far 10 departments had been devolved to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment, while the process was underway for devolution of remaining ones.Some 15 to 20 ministries will be devolved to the provinces under the 18th Constitutional Amendment by June 2011, Rabbani concluded. – Dailytimes
