KARACHI: Media Coordinator to Sindh government and senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Taj Haider said on Sunday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) should avoid politics of confrontation. This he said while addressing a press conference here at PPP Media Cell. He asked Makhdoom Javaid Hashmi, Kulsoom Nawaz, Mamnoon Hussain, Syed Ghous Ali Shah and Salim Zia to advise Nawaz Sharif and others for avoiding the politics of confrontation.Haider said that the PML-N leadership had started a campaign against the PPP as they were issuing ultimatum while they were saying in the past that they didn’t believe in the politics of ultimatums because there was no such word in their dictionary. He said: “Makhdoom Javaid Hashmi, Mamnoon Hussain, Syed Ghous Ali Shah, Salim Zia and others are our friends of jails during Pervaiz Musharraf’s regime. They have played vital role for the restoration of democracy so they should motivate their leadership for avoiding politics of contradiction and play a role of reconciliation.”He said that with the politics of confrontation, PML-N was creating hurdles in the way of democracy, which they had restored after a lot of sacrifices.

Referring to some past events, he said Nawaz during his second tenure as prime minister, had brought 15th Amendment, dissolved Sindh Assembly and imposed chief executive in the province. He said that PML-N had also fought with the army and managed an attack on the Supreme Court, and due to these activities the army took over. He said that when Musharraf ruled the country, many offers had knocked their doors but they rejected them and struggled for the restoration of the democracy.“Mian Brothers had signed Charter of Democracy (CoD) with the PPP but they violated it when they formed All Parties Democratic Movement (APDM) and announced to boycott the general election,” Haider said.He said that it was the vision of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto who had motivated Mian Brothers for taking part in the election but after her assassination, they had again announced boycott and we again had to motivate them for taking part in the election.

He said, “We knew that PML-N is our rival in the Punjab and they will get our votes but we did this just for the strengthening the democratic system in the country.” He said that after the election, they gave preference to the PML-N for making government in Punjab and getting share in the federal as well but they misused the judiciary issue and quit the federal government.Talking about the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, he said that the PML-N had created many hurdles in this regard also. Hair said that during Nawaz’s premiership many cases had been registered against the PPP leaders and workers, including their party leader Asif Ali Zardari, who was not only jailed but also tortured. He said that they were giving them a 10-point agenda on which they had started work but when their party gave them a 19-point agenda in the Punjab, they threw it in dustbin. He said that the PML-N was trying to make a forward block in Punjab, which was a clear violation of the 14th Amendment, adding that the third party would get benefit from the situation and would harm the democratic system – Dailytimes
