MUSCAT: Designers from across the region and India and Afghanistan will display their latest creations when Oman makes its first major attempt to seek a place on the world’s fashion map this week. The ‘Muscat Fashion Week’ (MFW) from Tuesday until Thursday, marking the grand finale of the Muscat Festival, will start at 7pm on all three days at the picturesque Riyam Park across the Muttrah Corniche. The three-hour show on each day will represent fashion styles from throughout the Gulf and its neighbouring countries, officials of Muscat Municipality, the organisers, told a news conference here on Saturday.Designers taking part in the event will include Oman’s Hanaa al Wahaibi, Nadra al Ajmi, Anisa Al Zadjali and Nawal al Hooti, Robert Abi Nader and Fadi Nahle (Lebanon) Amina Al Jassim (Saudi Arabia), Shrekahnth (India), Lamia Abi Nader (Morocco), Kubra Al Qaseer (Bahrain) and Zarif Design (Afghanistan). “Lots of fashion events are held all over the world. We are trying to be different,” Saif bin Sibaa al Rushaidy, Director-general of Muscat Municipality, said, pointing out that MFW would be exclusively for Arab and Oriental designs.“We expect top personalities from the fashion industry around the world and the international media to attend the Muscat show … We are planning to make it an annual event,” Rushaidy said.On the first two days, the show will be exclusively for women and the third and final day will be for couples. There will be four separate shows every day, each by a different designer, with models from India and Dubai walking the ramp.“It is an experiment that has never been done in Muscat before,” Malik
bin Fahmy Al Hinai, in-charge of the event, said, adding: “Focusing on established designers as well as new talent, Muscat Fashion Week will collect the crème of Arab and South Asian fashion world – Khaleejnews
