TIMERGARA, Feb 4: With the financial assistance of Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan, a non-profit organisation has launched a project here in Lower Dir to raise awareness of the consumer rights in different sectors.Talking to this correspondent, a coordinator of the Association for Behaviour and Knowledge Transformation (ABKT) Akbar Jan said the consumer rights project had been launched for 15 union councils of Lower Dir and awareness sessions would be conducted in 10 villages of each union council.
He said that producers, industrialists, traders and sales agents systematically got their due rights while consumers were exploited everywhere in the country. He said that so far awareness sessions had been conducted in some villages of Talash. Mr Jan said that the local lawyers had been consulted for providing assistance to consumers.During a session held at Soghalay, Talash, on Friday people complained that traders had been fleecing them in routine. They said that they had no information about consumers’ rights and the relevant laws. A legal expert briefed the session about specific rights of consumers while buying commodities.
He said that consumers had the right to get access to basic needs of their life. He said that consumers were being neglected by quarters concerned during price fixation. He said that there were complaint cells at police stations and other government departments, but consumers were reluctant to lodge their complaints.“The Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan will also provide free legal aid to consumers concerning violation of their rights,” he said – Dawn
