KARACHI: A comprehensive plan is being devised to improve the conditions of institutions and provide technical education and skills development in Lyari. To overcome the problems of six institutions in Lyari, various trades and courses have been launched. For the purpose enrolment and admission have also been started.Sindh Technical Education & Vocational Training Authority (STEVTA) MD Dr A Wahid Uqaili informed this to the Sindh STEVTA Minister Abdul Salam Thaheem, Katchi Abadis Minister Engr Muhammad Rafique and MPA Dr Salim Hingoro in a meeting regarding improvement, development of technical education and institutions at his office here on Tuesday.Uqaili, Tech Education Director Khalil Ahmed Memon, Manpower Training Sindh Director Nazar Ali, Academic (STEVTA) Director Dr Masroor, Regional Director Ms Aqil and others also attended the meeting.Uqaili appraised the meeting through detailed presentation and said to equip the students with modern communication and technical education like computer with Internet facilities should be provided.Lyari Women Polytechnic Institute project with an allocated amount of Rs 20 million should be completed within six months.On the occasion, Katchi Abadis minister said that Lyari was neglected during the tenure of the last government. In order to brighten the future of Lyari students’ mother technologies, such as, civil, medical and electronic courses would be started in the institutions so that they can be provided latest and modern technical education.He said that Lyari’s population is 1.6 million but less developed in terms of skills. It is the duty of the concerned government officials to give priority to Lyari in every field. He further said that Bachelor of Technology and other courses would also be initiated so that Lyari’s students would prove their abilities and talents.He said that the STEVTA would provide technical education to girls at the Lyari Women Polytechnic Institute. MPA Hingoro also spoke and assured his full cooperation and assistance to STEVTA for quality education in the area.Thaheem directed the STEVTA to take appropriate steps to provide technical educations to students of Lyari. He said that the government is working on a concrete plan of technical education through model project plans to provide maximum educational facilities to the Lyari students.He said that after meeting of the steering committee, within 15 days training and various courses under Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Youth Development Programme would be started in Phase III – Dailytimes
