PESHAWAR:Chief of his own fiction of Pakistan People`s Party Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao said here on Sunday that efforts were continued to make Pak-Afghan Jirga functional to resolve all contentious issues between the two brotherly countries.Militancy could be eliminated if leaderships of both the countries worked out a joint plan, he told a press conference. He hoped that the jirga would be made functional soon.“I urged former president of Afghanistan Burhanuddin Rabbani during his recent visit to Pakistan to resolve all controversial issues amicably,” said Mr Sherpao. He also announced setting up Nationalist Cultural Wing of his party in tribal areas. He urged the governments of both the countries to focus on their respective tribal regions.“The courageous people of tribal areas have rendered tremendous sacrifices in the ongoing war on terror,” he said.

He added that realistic efforts should be made to steer Fata out of the present crisis. “Our party doesn`t want merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. We think that decision in this regard should be taken after consultation with tribal elders,” he said.Mr Sherpao said that tribal elders should be taken onboard while introducing reforms in Fata. He said that Nationalist Cultural Wing of PPP-S was initially established in Khyber, Mohmand and Bajaur agencies only. The organisations would be set up in other tribal regions soon, he added. He said that hospitals, schools, factories and roads should be constructed in Fata to bring economic development and control militancy. He demanded of the government to take practical steps for uplift of tribal regions.“If American and Afghan governments are trying to negotiate with Taliban then why Pakistan government is reluctant in holding talks with them,” he asked. He blamed Sindh government for killings of Pakhtuns in Karachi, saying concrete efforts were not made so far to stop target killings – Dawn
