GOLF: Woods to launch season at Torrey Pines

SAN DIEGO: Tiger Woods will launch his 2011 PGA Tour season next week in San Diego, officially entering the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines on Wednesday. Woods has won the last five times he has competed at the Torrey Pines course, including his epic 2008 US Open playoff victory over Rocco Mediate. “I’ve been working hard on my game, it’s game time hooah!!” Woods Tweeted on Wednesday. He hasn’t played at the ocean front course since then, missing the PGA Tour event there in 2009 as he recovered from knee surgery and missing last year as he was absent from golf for three months in the aftermath of revelations of marital infidelity. Woods, who hasn’t won a title since the Australian Masters in November of 2009, lost the world number one ranking to England’s Lee Westwood last year.
