ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has declared about 818 MNAs, MPs and Senators degrees genuine and valid so far, said a senior official of ECP here on Wednesday. Talking to APP, he said “EC has declared 818 parliamentarian degrees genuine, while hearing of about 54 lawmakers is in progress and about 298 legislators have not furnished the required documents so far.”Lawmakers had failed to provide copies of their matric and intermediate certificates despite reminders, which impedes the process of verification of graduation degrees and educational certificates, as directed by the Supreme Court, he remarked. These legislators include 112 members of the National Assembly, 102 of the Punjab Assembly, 10 each of Balochistan and Sindh assemblies and 43 of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly and 21 members of the Senate. He said the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has dispatched the list to the ECP, seeking its help in provision of these lawmakers’ copies of matric, intermediate certificates and NIC copy. The officials said the legislators were asked in August and October last year to submit the documents. He said the EC will ask the 298 lawmakers to provide copies of matric and intermediate so the process of verification can be completed as soon as possible. He expressed the hope that majority of these lawmakers would submit the required documents for verification – APP
