Turkey to upgrade city’s transport system: LTC chairman

LAHORE: Turkey has shown interest in upgrading the city’s transport system to bring it on a par with international standards, said Lahore Transport Company (LTC) Chairman Khawaja Ahmed Hassan while addressing a Turkish delegation in Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Tuesday.The meeting was attended by a member of board of directors of LTC, Mohsin Latif, Secretary Transport Captain (retired) Muhammad Yousaf, Lahore Transport Company CEO JI Kim, Lahore SSP Traffic Ahmed Mobin, GM Operations Asad Gillani, GM Enforcement Fawad Qureshi and other senior officers.

LTC Chairman Ahmed Hassan said Turkey would make investment in bus rapid transit system, intelligent transportation system and integrated traffic management system, e-ticketing, fleet management system, bus terminals project, parking development and management projects in Lahore. Punjab government would provide subsidy to the private transport companies.Hassan said that bus rapid transit project would have a revolutionary impact on urban transport sector. He said that dedicated lanes would be constructed on Ferozpur Road and Multan Road for high-speed buses plying under the bus rapid transit system. He said that government and private sector of Turkey has shown keen interest in the urban transport sector of the city.He further said that Turkish delegation would evolve a mechanism to execute the plan of action devised for making investment in urban transport sector. He said the recent visit of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to Turkey proved to be a milestone in strengthening the mutual relations between Pakistan and Turkey. He said that Punjab government was committed to provide standardised and affordable transport facilities to the people of Lahore – Dailytimes
