Shershah scrap market incident

KARACHI: Nine more suspects involved in the Shershah scrap market incident that claimed 14 lives and wounded several others surrendered themselves to the Sindh police’s Special Investigation Unit (SIU) on Tuesday and confessed to the crime that they had done it on the orders of prime suspect Baba Ladla over the extortion issue.The nine suspects who according to the police surrendered themselves were Abid, Jauhar, Ejaz, Tufail, Rasheed, Asghar, Akbar, Iqbal and Tehseen, who after dialogues with the investigation officer of the SIU Inspector Mir Aslam surrendered themselves without weapons.It should be noted here that earlier on Dec 22, last year, three suspects Shafi Mohammad, Aslam Pervez and Nawaz Ali were arrested by the Rangers personnel from Lyari and one Lal Mohammad Magsi had surrendered himself to the Pak Colony police soon after the incident.

The suspects belong to the Lyari gang war group and the prime accused Noor Mohammad alias Baba Ladla and three more, namely Imdad Magsi, Rashid and Mullah Raju are yet to be arrested.It should be noted here that last year on Oct 19, the assailants shot dead 14 persons in Shershah scrap market and caused heavy losses of valuable items also. The Pak Colony police station on Oct 22 had registered an FIR (578/10) under section 302, 324/34, 7 Anti-Terrorist Act against 17 accused including Baba Ladla, Nawab, Pervaiz, Shafi Magsi, Ejaz, Abid, Mullah Raju, Jawad, Iqbal, Akbar, Rasheed alias Waja, Imdad, Asghar, Tufail, his son Tahseen and others. Later, the case was transferred to SIU for further re-investigation Investigation Officer Inspector Mir Aslam was probing the case.It should be noted here that the traders and shopkeepers of the Shershah scrap market had closed the market for at least a week and also staged protest rallies over the incident. SIU chief SSP Raja Omer Khattab said that fear of the police compelled them to surrender themselves because the raids were continuing for their arrests – Dailytimes
