SIALKOT: Two newly established thermal power plants would start functioning during the current month. Gepco Chief Executive Gujranwala region Muhammad Ibrahim Majoka told the newsmen here that 425 megawatts power station has been established at Nandipur-Gujranwala and 225 megawatts power plant has been established in Narowal district.
Both of these power plants would generate 750 megawatts electricity at the end of this month. While, Gepco will also get as many as 135 megawatts electricity through the two under construction rental power in Sialkot. He said this power generation would be helpful in minimising the period of power load shedding in the region, besides ensuring uninterrupted supply of electricity to the local industries in Sialkot, Gujranwala and Gujrat districts as well. Gepco CE added that the requirement of electricity is 1100 megawatts for more than 2.25 million consumers in region during this season, while Gepco is providing only 800 megawatts power to these consumers, as there is a shortfall of 300 megawatts in the region — due to which there is power load shedding in almost all the urban and rural areas here. – Dailytimes
