LAHORE:The first Sprite Golf Tournament concluded at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course on Sunday with the high achievers turning out to be Danyaal Jehangir securing the top amateur gross, Rashid Iqbal topping in amateur net, and Karamatullah Chaudry and AVM (R) Zakaullah making it to the first slot in seniors net and seniors net.The overall performances carried a touch of class and although some ended up behind the ultimate winners, they produced rounds that deserve a lot of applause. Mian Javed Ali, who is also Secretary of LCCA, had a fantastic score and so did participants like Dr Waqar Farooqi and Taimur Shabbir. Taimur is Nishan-e-Haider Maj. Shabbir Sharif’s son.The head of Golfers Welfare Trust, Javed A Khan took the initiative by introducing the ball boys and caddies competition which has brought to light quite a few talented youngsters. Noticeable have been performances of Shahzad, Ilyas and Tikka Ijaz in the caddies section and Zahoor, Namoon and Shawan in ball boys section. They will now be formally coached and supported by the Golfers Welfare Trust.Ladies section winners are Kashfa Zafar and Mrs. Asma Shami (gross section), and Mrs.Sameea Javaid Ali and Mrs. Naureen Malik(ladies net). Amongst the veterans winners are Col. Azhar Khawaja, Air Cmdr(r) ZI Ahmed(net section) and Javed Zia, A Sattar Khan (gross section).At the conclusion of the ceremony, the prizes were awarded by Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman, Provincial Minister for Excise and Education and Zafar Abbas Jafri, General Manager, Coca Cola Beverages – PT
