KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has directed all provincial government departments to regularly pay all kinds of taxes and clear their dues if any were unpaid.

He was presiding over a high-level meeting in connection with collection of various taxes in the province at the Chief Minister’s House here on Thursday.

He observed that the process of tax collection is less than the target fixed by the Sindh government, as such it will be imperative to have concerted efforts for improving the process of collection of various government taxes.

Qaim Ali Shah said, “All government departments should abide by the law and pay the taxes and clear the dues if any remained unpaid.”

He also directed that the relevant departments should keep vigilance that lands allotted to any agency or department, federal or provincial, are utilised specifically for the purposes, such lands are granted and in case the allotted land is found being used for any other purpose, then it will be cancelled and reoccupied by the provincial government or by the Sindh revenue department.

The CM directed the concerned departments to pay full attention towards generation of funds so as to meet the needs of various development schemes in the province.

He stressed upon revenue, excise and taxation and other departments to pay full attention towards recovery of taxes promptly and as such all departments should be pulled up to increase the financial resources of the provincial government.

The meeting discussed in detail the ways and means in this regard and evolved a strategy to meet the challenges.

It was observed that due to heavy floods and stormy rains, 11 districts in Sindh were badly affected and due to damages to crops, roads, villages, communication system etc, the collection of taxes was badly affected.

Sindh Finance Minister Murad Ali Shah, Minister Excise and Taxation Mukesh Kumar Chawla, and Sindh Board of Revenue member Ghulam Ali Shah Pasha highlighted the position of finance and collection of taxes etc.

The meeting was also attended by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Ayaz Soomro, Provincial Secretaries of Finance Muhammad Siddique Memon, Excise and Taxation Department’s Mohsin Haqani, Secretary Law Ghulam Nabi Shah and Secretary to Chief Minister Sindh Ahmed Bux Narejo – Dailytimes
