Army to stay in Swat, says Gen Kayani

MINGORA:Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani has said that peaceful Swat will bring prosperity for the people of the area and the army will stay there to provide security and confidence to the people. He was speaking at a function organized at the Rehabilitation Centre for the former militants here on Tuesday. Forty-six youths have passed out a training in different trades which was arranged for them by the army to enable them begin a peaceful and productive life for themselves and their families.

Gen Kayani said similar training courses would be held during the next two years for the youths of the area. He assured the youths that army will not leave them after training and them in getting jobs. He asked them to remain in touch with the training centre for this purpose. The COAS said those who are willing to join Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and the police should offer their services and they would be accommodated.

He asked them to play their part for peace and prosperity of the country, province and the Swat Valley. He assured that there would be reserved vacancies in the army for the local people. “Your happiness is our happiness and Pakistan and your province will be happy if you are happy. Do good job and prove useful for the families and the country.” the COAS advised the youths.Turning to the development activities in Swat and Malakand, Gen Kayani said today he laid the foundation of a bridge which will be constructed with the financial assistance of Abu Dhabi. He assured that all bridges swept away during floods would be built by the army to facilitate the people of the area. He said though Swat-Kalam Road has been made traffic worthy but it will be further improved for the convenience of the people.
