8 Lesco men held for embezzling millions

LAHORE:Director Federal Investigation Agency Zafar Ahmed Qureshi has said thorough campaign against corruption in federal government departments is underway, and eight officers of LESCO have been arrested for allegedly embezzling millions of rupees, while investigations are underway against SNGPL officers because of their indulgence in allowing theft of sui gas to CNG stations and factories.While addressing a press conference here on Tuesday at his office, he said, in compliance to the directions of Interior Minister Rehman Malik, a campaign against corrupt officers/officials of FIA was also launched as a result of which criminal/disciplinary actions were taken against five FIA personnel, which include Inspector Ghulam Sarwar Warriach AHT Sub Circle Gujrat, Sub Inspector Imran Azam Gondal AHTC Gujranwala, and Inspector Mushtaq Hussain Shah AHT Sub Circle Gujrat, who had employed a private person for official duty, while departmental proceeding under E & D Rules 1973 initiated, and a regular enquiry has also be registered at FUA ACC Lahore. Inspector Sarfraz Ali, AHT Sub Circle Gujrat, is absent from duty, while HC Abdul Karim (Moharar) AHT Sub Circle Gujrat has been found inefficient to performing official duty.

He further added that the FIA Cyber Crime Circle Lahore in continuation of crack down against illegal gateway exchanges in Punjab conducted two raids on the last Tuesday against M/s Bukhari General Trading. Fatima Manzil, Beedon Road, Lahore and Sehgal General Trading, Opposite Packages Factory Gate # 2, Walton Road, Lahore. These companies were using five Internet connections of heavy bandwidth for illegal exchanges for illegal termination of International Voice Traffic bypassing legal Gateway. Sajid Akram Chaudhry, Deputy Director Cyber Crime Circle FIA Punjab Lahore after approval from Director FIA Punjab Lahore, Zafar Ahmad Qureshi, ordered for conducting raids. The first team, along with the representative of PTA, conducted raid at M/s Bukhari General Trading Beedon Road, Lahore, where the Fiber Optic was re-routed through media converter leading to Fahad Arcade, near Lahore High Court, The Mall Lahore at a distance of about two kilometres from where a huge setup of Illegal Gateway Exchange was recovered. The second party reached at Sehgal General Trading at Walton Road, where two media converters were used to re-route the Fiber Optic to 21-E Walton Road at a distance of about five kilometres. The accused parties by illegally terminating International Voice Traffic through establishing an illegal gateway exchanges were causing huge loss of Rs 60 million per year to the government exchequer for the last two years.
