KARACHI:The street criminals stole/snatched 24 vehicles, 103 motorcycles, and 132 mobile phones during last four days in Karachi.According to a CPLC report, three vehicles were snatched at gunpoint and 21 vehicles were stolen, 17 motorcycles were snatched at gunpoint and 86 bikes were stolen from the different areas of Karachi. During this period, 47 cell phones were also snatched and 85 were stolen in different incidents.Meanwhile, Airport police claimed having arrested a street criminal after an encounter in the wee hours of Monday and recovered cell phones and cash snatched from passengers.Duty Officer of Airport police station said that two armed men riding a bike bearing registration number MNN-9883 snatched two mobile phones and cash from two men who had come from Islamabad. The victims informed police that two motorcyclist robbed them near Airport. One of the accused wore a burqah, they told. Receiving the information, ASI Airport police Raja Anwar with police party chased the accused near Falak Naz apartment.
On seeing the police the accused opened fire on police which was retaliated. As a result one of the accused Badal s/o Hashim received bullet in his hand while his other accomplice managed to escape from the scene. The police however overpowered the injured Badal.The injured was shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center for medical treatment.Duty Officer said the police have recovered a snatched motorcycle bearing registration number MNN-9883 two snatched mobile phones and looted cash from the scene. The recovered bike was snatched in the limits of Air Port police station on Saturday, official told. The police have registered FIR number 995/10 and started further probe.Meanwhile, Inspector General Police Sindh Sultan Sallahuddin Baber Khattak on Monday attended funeral prayer of a slain cop at Police Malir Headquarters. Deceased cop, Ali Raza, deputed at Malir police station was gunned down by unidentified terrorists on the other day.
