ISLAMABAD: Standing ovation was given to the Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao as he entered the NA hall. The Chinese Premier waved his hand and thanked Members of the Parliament.
• The Chinese Premier entered the hall with Chairman Senate Farooq H Naek and Speaker National Assembly Dr.Fahmida Mirza at 9:32 am (scheduled time).
• National anthems of the two countries were played followed by recitation from the Holy Quran.
• The Chinese Premier started his speech with ‘Assalam u Alaikum’ and the hall echoed with long live Pakistan China friendship while the members were constantly thumping desks during his speech.
• Governors, Chief Ministers of all provinces including Gilgit-Baltistan, Leaders of the Opposition in National Assembly and Senate, Speakers of all provincial assemblies including Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), President and Prime Minister of AJK, heads of all political parties, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee and services chiefs attended the session.
• Chinese Premier is the 6th head of state who addressed joint setting of the Parliament.
• After his speech Members of the Parliament again give a standing ovation to their distinguished guest.
• After the proceedings, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao along with Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Speaker NA and Chairman Senate walked to the floor of the House especially to greet the Parliamentarians and separately shook hand with them.
• Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani introduced members of the Cabinet and Parliament to the Chinese Premier.
• The Chinese Premier quoted two sayings during his speech: “A neighbor is far better than a distant relative and “A good neighbor is a blessing.”
• Wen Jiabao ended his speech with “Pak-Cheen Dosti Zindabad” (Long Live Pakistan China friendship) and was clapping his hands to respond to thumping of desks by the Parliamentarians.
• Prime Minster Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and Leader of the Opposition in National Assembly offered vote of thanks to the Chinese Premier.
• The NA hall was full of its capacity and extra chairs were put to accommodate Members of the Senate.
