Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani Saturday hosted a luncheon in honour of Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and members of his delegation.The Chinese Premier is on a three-day visit to Pakistan, aimed at further strengthening their rich bonds and expanding cooperation in all areas.The luncheon was attended by politicians of all shades, Chairman Senate Naek, Speaker National Assembly Fehmida Mirza, Governors and Chief Ministers of the four provinces, members of the federal cabinet, services chiefs, diplomats and senior civil and military officials.Prime Minister Gilani extended a very warm welcome to the Chinese Premier. He said the ties between the two countries were “rock solid” and the two would jointly celebrate 2011 as year of friendship, marking their 60th anniversary of relations.
Gilani acknowledged with gratitude China’s assistance to Pakistan in 2005 earthquake, Attabad lake and the recent flooding.
He said Pakistan supports one-China policy and “condemns any attempt to undermine China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
He said the two countries share the ideals of safe, secure, prosperous neighbourhood with our region free from strife and conflict, and a world embracing peace, harmony and understanding. “We want this vision to be translated into reality,” he added.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said both countries are good neighbours and have marched ahead through thick and thin and stood the test of time.
He said the relationship had gone beyond bilateral ties and moved into strategic sphere. He vowed that at no cost China would waiver in it.
He recalled the devastation caused by flood and said Chinese people were deeply concerned by the disaster. He assured support in agriculture, infrastructure and energy on sustainable and durable basis.
Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said he was delighted to return to Pakistan after five years and appreciated the hospitality.
He said the two sides will hold a series of events next year to further cement their ties for even a brighter future of their strategic partnership.
The menu included; Chinese vegetable rice, Pakistani bar-b-que platter, classic curry with fried tofu, Shanghai noodles, chicken consomme with Chinese dumplings, rice noodles with crisp vegetables. The dessert included Lychee cream Brulee and green tea. – App
