The Army along with other law enforcing agencies have extended full support to hold the 31st National Games in smooth and secure manners scheduled for December 25-31 here.In this connection a high level meeting was held with Corps Commander Peshawar Asif Yasin Malik in the chair. Provincial Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah,the IG Frontier Corps,the Chief Secretary Ghulam Dastagir, the Secretary Home, IGP Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Fiaz Khan Toro, Commandant FC, CCPO Liaqat Ali Khan,the Secretary Sports,the Commissioner Peshawar, Organizing Secretary of the Games Zulfiqar Butt and other high ranking military and civil officials were also present.
The meeting in detail discussed foolproof security measures for the forthcoming games besides safe passage of the players to the venues and security at accommodations were also discussed.
In his brief speech, Syed Aqil Shah, Provincial Minister for Sports told the meeting that 12 Men and 5 women events will be held at Peshawar while Swimming (Men & Women), Football (Men), Handball, Taekwondo (Men & Women), Shooting, Wushu will be organized in Islamabad and Brig. Arif Saddique, President Islamabad Olympic Association, has been nominated as coordinator there.
The Rowing will be held at Khanpur Lake while Hockey (Men) and Baseball (Men) will be organized at Abbottabad and Mardan respectively.
In Peshawar, he said, events like Kabaddi, Squash, Karate (Women) Netball (Men & Women) will be organized in PAF Sports Complex in befitting manners.
Lt. Gen. Asif Yasin Malik said that holding the National Games here will give a positive message to the world.
He said Army along with other law enforcing agencies would provide full security to the players and officials.
He said the Games will also be proved as a relief to the youth of the country. He also lauded the efforts of the Provincial Minister for Sports Syed Aqil Shah who is fully committed in this connection.
Syed Aqil Shah thanked him for extending full support in holding the games in befitting manners.
He disclosed Asian gold medalist Aamir Atlas to lit the 31st National Games lamp after receiving it from other legendary Olympians who would carrying the torch as a sign of effort to promote sports.
He said more then 7000 players and officials from all the units of POA including four provinces, Islamabad, FATA, Gilgit-Baltishtan, AJK, Pakistan Army, PAF, Wapda, Railways and HEC will taking part in the games. – App
