NEW YORK:Veteran Pakistani journalist Iftikhar Ali,: Veteran Pakistani journalist Iftikhar Ali, who represents the Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) in New York, was among the four recipients of the 2010 awards conferred on them by a representative Pakistani association over the weekend. The Pakistan League of America, a non-political body established in 1970, honours every year those members of the Pakistani community who have made an outstanding contribution to the community or excelled in their respective callings.
Minister of State for Parliamentary affairs Mehreen Anwar Raja, who was on a visit to the United States, gave away the awards at an impressive ceremony attended by more than 250 people, including ANP Senator Haji Muhammad Adeel and Pakistan’s Consul General in New York Fakir Asif Hussain.Apart from Iftikhar Ali, other awardees were: Salma Ataullah Jan, a Canadian Senator, Dr. Sajida Shabbir Ahmad, a leading medical doctor in California, and Nyarra Haque, a Washington-based State Department official.The Chairman of the Pakistan League of America, Shafqat Tanweer, and its president, Shafie Bezar, congratulated the recipients of awards on their achievements that had brought good name to the Pakistani community.Iftikhar Ali has covered many historic events in Pakistan and around the world during his over 50 years of service in journalism – App
