LAHORE: Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Muhammad Aslam Tareen on Wednesday has proposed a ban on pillion riding during preliminary days of Muharram-ul-Haram.
CCPO also appealed to the Ulema to restrict loud speakers’ use at mosques and imambargaahs, and that sermons should emphasize peace and solidarity among the people. He expressed these views, while talking to a 15-member delegation of Shia Ulema at his office under the leadership of Haider Ali Mirza. CCPO said foolproof security will be ensured during Muharram.

He said people organizing any program without prior intimation to the police will be arrested and an FIR will be lodged against them. CCPO said the security plan had been chalked out after consulting with leaders from various schools of thought, and 184 sensitive locations had been identified in the city. He said more than 12,000 police jawans would provide security to 4000 majalis and 640 processions. He said that patrolling officers on 134 mobile squads, 85 motor bikes, 75 cars and 11 Elite Force’s cars will also be deployed on this occasion. Similarly, Lahore Police will provide security to 297 Imambargaahs and 787 mosques falling on the processions’ routes. He directed that parking be made at a safe distance, preferably 200 meters, from venues of majalis and precessions.

He informed that crises management centers will be established in the city, which will function around the clock, while a special control room will setup in CCPO office for inter-agency coordination. CCPO said that code of conduct will be strictly implemented and 1,068 members of District Peace Committee will remain present on theroutes of  procession and majalis. Similarly, enforcement of Loud Speaker Ordinance will be ensured, he added. He said all entry and exit points of majalis’ venues will be covered, and rooftop deployment will be ensured. He directed divisional SPs to monitor security arrangements and said he will personally inspect all such locations to review arrangements – PT
