The Hub School, which claims to be ‘one of the best schools of South Asia,’ will open its doors soon to the people of Balochistan and Sindh and the rest of the country. This was stated by Chairman Ahmed EH Jaffer Foundation, Abdul Kader Jaffar, at the plaque unveiling ceremony to acknowledge Rs 50 million donation to the school by Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL). Jaffer said the Foundation’s education mission is reflected in the verses of the Holy Quran, which asks human beings to seek knowledge and ‘Read in the name of the Lord’ and to reflect. He pointed out that it was the Foundation’s endeavour to transmit knowledge to the younger generation and the only way to do this was through the written word and ensure that our children who are the leaders of tomorrow get the best education which would enable them to better themselves and the coming generations and build a prosperous country.
Jaffer said that ‘the Jaffer family’ was closely associated with education and a cornerstone of their public service efforts since more than a century, and his great grandfather Khan Bahadur Jaffer Yousuf had set up a girls school in Pune way back in 1907, which was functioning even today. He said the school, which was being built and run entirely on donations, would need more funds for donations for equipment, dormitory and laboratories. Giving details about the school, he informed the audience that The Hub School (THS) curriculum was designed to prepare students to qualify and to sit for the widely accepted International Baccalaureate programme. He said that the school’s Board of Governors felt that this would equip the students to meet international requirements and make their mark in the world of tomorrow. He said that THS would offer full scholarship to 15 percent of the students so that deserving pupils who needed financial assistance could avail the facilities of this fine institution and hoped that the number of full scholarships would be raised with assistance from philanthropists. He said he was very pleased with the fact that one of the best education institutions of South Asia with the highest standards comparable to anywhere in the world was located in Balochistan, which he said would give youth of the area a chance to attain a good education.
Hidayatullah Pirzada said PPL had a long association with education, and had been running the school in Sui since the 1950s. PPL Managing Director Khalid Rahman in his address said that PPL would continue to support the THS project and also encourage other corporations to extend assistance to THS. – Dailytimes
