ISLAMABAD: The government despite severe protest and opposition by one of its allied parties MQM and the opposition benches tabled the Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) 2010 bill before the National Assembly on Friday.The Finance Amendment Bill 2010 was also tabled before the house for implementation of Flood Surcharge and increase in Excise Duty.Both the bills were tabled in the house by Finance Minister Senator Abdul Hafeez Sheikh.As soon as he stood up for to table the RGST Bill 2010 all the opposition parties members stood up from their chairs and started thumping their desks while shouting slogans of GST unacceptable. During the rumpus Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani was also present.
Amidst this rumpus Abdul Hafeez Sheikh table the RGST Bill 2010 and Finance Amendment Bill 2010, which were forwarded to Standing Committee on Finance. The Standing committee would review the Bill and would present its report to National Assembly.Later NA speaker adjourned the session sine dine and read the president’s orders in this regard.Earlier speaking on a point of order opposition leader in the national assembly Ch Nisar demanded of the government that the Reformed GST Bill should be presented before parliament after taking into confidence all political parties including the opposition. He said that we wont allow anti people decisions to be bull dosed in the Parliament.
He said that making false promises and pledges has become a habit of the government. He said that the National Accountability Bill has still not be tabled in the current session of the parliament and neither any response has been given on Nawaz Sharif’s letter to President Zardari adding that if PM does not respect his own pledges than nothing remains.Opposition Leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan opine that government takes decisions in the wee hours of the night urging Opposition was not taken on board regarding Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) 2010 bill urging Finance Minister status in the House is like a mere Guest.On the other hand, Parliamentary leader MQM Farooq Sattar also seriously opposed Reformed General Sales Tax (RGST) 2010 bill that was tabled in the NA without consent.He further added that time is not far away when masses will be on the verge of suicide as they have been augmented with financial burden from time to time.He said that this bill would bring a tsunami of inflation. Tax should be imposed on landlords and Jagidars.He Said MQM quaid Altaf Hussain has also asked the govt not to put the people of this country into further trials – Onlinenews
