Pop sensation Katy Perry caused a standstill as she descended on Selfridges’ beauty hall this afternoon to launch her first perfume, ‘Purr’.Thousands gathered at the store on Oxford Street, London, to catch a glimpse of the 26 year-old. Perry, who wore a bright purple satin dress by Miu Miu, spent several hours greeting fans, and personally signed perfume boxes for the first 100 customers. The quirky American singer, who has sold more than 30 million records worldwide, recently married British comedian Russell Brand. She flew into the capital from New York, where she had performed on stage at the Victoria’s Secret fashion show earlier this week.
Perry’s foray into the world of fragrance conveys her love of all things feline: the Purr bottle is shaped like a kitten, and the advertising campaign sees the singer provocatively dressed as Catwoman in a PVC catsuit, complete with a long, slinky tail. A 50ml bottle of eau de parfum, which blends floral and fruity notes with vanilla, costs £37.50, and will no doubt feature on the Christmas wish list of many a teenage girl across the country. She joins an endless list of popstars who have ‘bottled’ their popularity, including Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Beyoncé, Kylie, Mariah Carey and Céline Dion. Her debut perfume will be available exclusively at Selfridges for one week, ahead of a national roll-out from November 20 – Telegraph
