ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has said that he would chair a Balochistan specific Central Working Development Party (CWDP) meeting in Quetta in the coming weeks after Eid to approve new important schemes for the development of the province. He said that though the government is not in a position to take up any new projects under the PSDP because of resource constraints caused by the recent devastating floods yet an exception is being made in the case of Balochistan.
The Prime Minister while meeting with the Chief Minister Balochistan and his delegation at Prime Minister Secretariat on Monday evening said that funds for ongoing development schemes in Balochistan are promptly released on receipt of demand of the province to ensure timely completion of the projects.The Prime Minister directed the concerned authorities to complete the repair work on the major highways connecting Balochistan with other provinces on priority basis to accelerate the pace of development in the region.He has observed that most of roads in Balochistan have been damaged mainly on account of large transportation of goods and fuel for the coalition forces in Afghanistan, therefore, Pakistan needs to take up the repair issue with them.He asked the Finance Minister to take up this issue with the coalition forces to finance the heavy expenditure of repair work.Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister for giving special attention to the development of his province.
He also thanked the Prime Minister for timely release of funds for the ongoing development schemes in Balochistan.He requested the Prime Minister to take up new schemes already earmarked in the PSDP keeping in view the special circumstances of his province.He also thanked the Prime Minister for deciding to hold Balochistan specific CWDP meeting in the near future as a special favour.Chief Minister Balochistan apprised the Prime Minister of the progress of development schemes.He said there were a number of roads which have been damaged due to recent floods consequently hampering supply of essential commodities to the people of the province. He requested the Prime Minister to provide additional funds to take up reconstruction work on such roads at the earliest.The meeting was also attended by Minister for Finance Dr.Abdul Hafiz Shaikh, Minister for Postal Services Mir Israrullah
