World Fellowship of Buddhists donates for flood affectees in Pakistan

ISLAMABAD:The World Fellowship of Buddhists (WFB) headquartered in Bangkok has made a donation amounting to $ 20,000 for the flood affected people in Pakistan.WFB’s Secretary General Phallop Thiarry had launched an immediate appeal to raise funds for the affectees as soon as the news of the devastating floods in Pakistan was flashed worldwide.WFB members in Thailand and other Buddhist countries made contributions through a special account opened by WFB to collect donations.Founded in 1950, the World Fellowship of Buddhists has over 140 regional centers in 37 countries distributed geographically worldwide. A WFB delegation led by Secretary General Phallop Thiarry and including several high-ranking monks had visited Pakistan in March 2010.Besides visiting various Gandhara sites in Pakistan, the delegation had also called on President Asif Ali Zardari.
The WFB’s donation for the flood victims was announced by its Vice President Arun Nagmdee during a special event at the WFB headquarter in Bangkok on October 10, 2010, focussed on the Gandhara heritage of Pakistan.Speaking on the occasion, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Thailand Sohail Mahmood expressed sincere gratitude to the WFB leadership and members for their compassion and commitment to help the people affected by the unprecedented floods.
The donated amount is being transmitted by the Pakistan Embassy through the Prime Minister’s Flood Relief Fund 2010 – App
