LAHORE: A new cricket set up at Royal Palm Golf and Country Club was launched on Sunday in the presence of a large number of eager cricket fans, members of the club and their families. The Cricket Arena includes a green top wicket laid by Ishaq, a notable grounds man of the Pakistan Cricket Board, who is acclaimed as the person responsible for preparing the cricket pitches in Sharjah. In addition to the green top wicket, also ready for use is a cement wicket for exciting tape ball matches.As part of the inaugural activity, five overs cricket match was contested between Royal Palm members team and the Royal Palm staff team.Member’s Team: Omer Subhan Salamat, Adil Alam, Tanveer Karamat, Saeed ul Haseeb, Muhammad Faizan Chaudhry, Agha Muhammad Ali Qazilbash, M Rizwan, Zahid Hassan. Staff Team: Sohail Ahmad, Maj(R) Manzoor Khattak, Babar Safdar, Ali Raza, Rashid Ali, Shahid Javeed Khan, Abid Ali, Kamran Raza.The Royal Palm staff team looked trimmer and fitter and some outstanding batting performances were displayed by Babar Safdar and Sohail Ahmad which enabled the Royal Palm staff team to earn victory over the Royal Palm members team.Batting first, The Royal Palm member’s team scored a total of 40 runs in allotted five overs with Omer Salamat being the highest scorer with 11 to his credit. The members team scored the required 40 runs without losing any wicket. Sohail Ahmad was the highest scorer with 15 runs.The new cricket facility will be operational from Tuesday and also operational will be the coaching clinic.After the completion of the match, General Manager Royal Palm Omer Mir awarded certificates to the participating teams – Nation
