LAHORE : The Federal Cabinet in its 68th meeting, accorded approval to Turkamenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) Gas Pipeline Project- Gas Pipeline Framework Agreement (GPFA). The Federal Information Minister Qamar Zaman Kaira stated this in a press conference after the cabinet meeting held at Governor’s House here Wednesday.
To a question, he said this international gas pipeline project was in the best interest of Pakistan, asserting, the project would continue among the three countries even if India did not sign it.Kaira said the cabinet also gave its nod to the draft MoU on cooperation between Naif Arab University For Security Sciences (NAUSS), Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and National Defence University (NDU), Pakistan; the draft Land Surveying and Mapping Bill 2010 and referred it to Law and Justice Division for vatting; the renewal of the MoU concerning to “Defence and Defence Equipment” between Pakistan and South Africa for a period of five years; and for signing of agreements between State of Qatar and Pakistan.
While, the federal cabinet, he added, referred the draft Bill for regulating Hajj, Umra and Ziaraat to a Cabinet Committee comprising Ministers for Religious Affairs, Tourism, and Law & Justice.
The cabinet observed that at present tourism laws do not cover the specific problems of the pilgrims travel aborad to perform religious rituals. There are certain areas in which the tour operators and the travel agents mislead the pilgrims for which there are no legal remedies to address their grievances, he added.The cabinet meeting also discussed the Islamabad Rent Restriction Bill, he said, it was suggested to provide an alternate forum to simplify and registration of rental agreements as well as reducing its fees.
