Parliament’s supremacy vital for democratic culture : Gilani

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Monday that supremacy of the Parliament was imperative for promotion of democratic culture and good governance.Talking to Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Ms.Mehreen Anwar Raja, who called on him along with a group of parliamentarians at the PM House, Gilani said the quality of debate and business of the Parliament shows seriousness of the political leadership towards national issues and their settlement.The Prime Minister stressed the need of taking opposition’s criticism positively and said special efforts should be made for cordial working environment.He asked the Minister of State for coordination between government and the Parliament in connection with legislation and bills of immediate nature be prioritized.Gilani also endorsed the need for support to the Parliamentary Committees in conduct of business so that legislation could be expedited and made more meaningful.Ms. Mehreen Anwar Raja briefed the Prime Minister about the scheduled parliamentary business during next sessions in both the houses.The delegation members included Sardar Talib Hussain Nakai MNA, Muhammad Nawaz Allai MNA and Sardar Shahjahan Yousuf MNA. They also apprised the Prime Minister of the progress of on-going development schemes in their respective constituencies.
