KARACHI (September 18 2010): Trade and businesses in the city remained closed on Friday after traders announced to observe mourning day on murder of MQM leader Imran Farooq, bringing the supply of grain and other essential commodities to a suspension. Reports regarding the killing in London left everyone shocked in the metropolis, said traders, adding that “the decision to observe mourning day was taken immediately after the news reports”.
Small and big markets besides cottage units were locked throughout the day, as citizens and traders were somewhat in panic of sporadic violence. Traders said supply of grain from main Jodia Bazaar to the rest of the city could not take place because markets did not resume trade. Markets in Saddar, old city area, Arambagh, Shahrae Liaquat, Boulton Market, Baldia Town, Clifton, Landhi, Malir, Liaquat Abad, Nazimabad, New Karachi and other parts of the city remained shut down, traders said.
