Angelina Jolie had a ‘healthier’ look in Tomb Raider says Lara Croft model Alison Carroll.
Angelina Jolie’s increasingly slender appearance has provoked much comment. Now, Alison Carroll, the official model for the Lara Croft video game character portrayed by Jolie in two Hollywood films, has weighed in to the debate.
“It’s good when she has got a nice healthy look, so I think she looked better as Lara Croft,” said Carroll at the premiere of Bonded by Blood, at the Odeon Covent Garden.
Experts were quoted in one report on Jolie, 35, attributing the bulging veins that could be seen on her arms, hands and fingers to too much exercise.
Carroll, 25, was keen to extol the virtues of Christina Hendricks, the voluptuous star of Mad Men. “She is definitely a role model,” she told me. “She is fab.”

Andrew Lloyd Webber may have postponed plans to take Love Never Dies, his sequel to The Phantom of the Opera, to Broadway, but he is keen to try out new productions elsewhere. Mandrake hears that the composer wants Craig Revel Horwood, the Strictly Come Dancing judge, to stage the West End musical in Toronto.
Lord Lloyd-Webber is said to have been impressed with a production of Sunset Boulevard that the choreographer directed in London in 2008.
Vaclav Havel casts friends in film
Václav Havel, the former Czech president, is putting the finishing touches to a film version of his play Leaving, which tells, poignantly, of the effect leaving office has on a politician.
Havel, who is directing the film, allowed himself one indulgence on the last day of the shoot just outside Prague:he invited his friends to play a rabble of journalists swarming around the ex-leader as he departs in the final scene.
The scores of Havel’s friends who turned up included Michael Žantovsky, the Czech Republic’s ambassador to Britain. “Whatever Václav asks you to do is never going to be dull,” says Žantovsky.
