Recovery of Rs0.78m from fake pensioners ordered

PESHAWAR: The provincial government has directed the administrations of Karak, Abbottabad and Kohat districts to ensure early recovery of Rs0.78 million from ghost pensioners in their respective areas, sources revealed on Tuesday.

They informed that an audit by Finance Department had unearthed irregularities in the payment of pension funds in the aforementioned districts, adding that the audit exposed that around 5,863 fake pensioners had been drawing pension for a long time, incurring a loss of Rs0.78m on the kitty.

Sources further revealed that the finance department had also issued directives to the concerned finance officers and the auditor general offices to immediately stop payment to false pensioners and initiate departmental inquiries to expose the elements involved in the fraud case.

The provincial authorities have also decided to stop the pensions of all those federal employees who are permanently stationed in KP.

They further said that the revenue departments of the three districts had also been directed to get their records computerised at the earliest for ensuring transparency in monetary affairs.

Sources claimed that the bureaucracy associated with the old revenue record system was afraid of transparency and it was creating hindrance in introduction of a foolproof system. –  Statesman
