KARACHI, Aug 26 (APP)- A strong 15-member Pakistan men and women squad is due to leave for Ning Bo (China) on Saturday to feature in the inaugural Asia Cup Bridge Championship being staged there from August 30 to September 5. National Champions Data Steel which won their first-ever national crown will be representing Pakistan in the championship. Pakistan Open team will be having experienced stalwarts like Rashid-ul-Ghazi, Javed Ahmed Miran, Javed Khalid, Tahir Masood, Saeed Akhtar and Tehsin Gheewala in their fold.
Pakistan ladies team included Mrs. Farida Ahmed, Mrs. Shamim Mahmood, Mrs. Akhter Haq, Mrs. Azra Raja, Mrs. Zeenat Azwer, and Mrs. Dinaz Dubash.
Tariq Rasheed Khan will be Chief de Mission and Non Playing Captain of the team.
Senior Vice President World Bridge Federation Mazhar Jafri SVP WBF and Secretary General Bridge Federation & Asia and Middle East (BFAME) Azwer-ul-Haq will also accompany the team.
Tariq Rasheed Khan, who is also the President of Pakistan Bridge Federation, said Chinese Bridge Federation is launching the competition and 19 teams from Australia, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Jordan, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Pakistan and host China are taking part in the 9-day competition.
“We are aiming to finish among the top five team and Pakistan got a strong and experienced team for the open event,” Tariq Rasheed Khan pointed.
He said event is played on the swiss league round robin league basis with 16 board matches and team securing highest points will emerge as the winners of the continent – APP
