  • Metropolitan Transportation Authority is inaugurating the $1.4 billion the Fulton Center transit complex
  • Nine subway lines converge at the site creating a vital link between the newly-opened building and the rest of the city
  • It is in a glass and steel shell with a soaring, light-filled atrium, and has 66,000 square feet of retail and office space
  • Publishing giant Conde Nast moved in last Monday at One World Trade Center, a 104-story, $3.9 billion skyscraper
  • The building is 60 per cent leased with advertising firm Kids Creative, and Legends Hospitality also moving in
  • Port Authority director said New York City skyline is ‘whole again’, as One World Trade Center takes its place
  • City officials have called One World Trade Center in lower Manhattan ‘the most secure office building in America’
  • The building, which is America’s tallest, is open to tenants but a date for opening ceremony has yet to be decided

New York’s biggest subway hub is opening in the resurrected World Trade Center – providing a vital link between lower Manhattan and the rest of the city.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is inaugurating the $1.4 billion Fulton Center, a transit complex where nine subway lines converge.

Officials say the transit and retail hub will serve as Lower Manhattan’s next great public space — encased in a glass and steel shell with a soaring, light-filled atrium. It also includes nearly 66,000 square feet of retail and office space.

The center will accommodate up to 300,000 daily riders using the 2, 3, 4, 5 subway lines, plus the A, C, J, Z and R. A pedestrian tunnel will lead to the trade center.Last week, thirteen years after the 9/11 terrorist attack, the resurrected building opened for business – marking an emotional milestone for both New Yorkers and the nation.
