Israeli security forces have once again clashed with Palestinian worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

Reports on Wednesday said that the Israeli forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets as Palestinians tried to enter the compound for prayers. Three Palestinians suffered injuries during the clash, which erupted after Palestinians under the age 50 were denied entry into the holy site.

The Al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and heritage also confirmed the incident in a statement, saying, the Israeli forces “assaulted” Palestinians.

Israeli soldiers had earlier limited Palestinian worshippers’ access to the Temple Mount, where the mosque compound is located. The soldiers, however, allowed dozens of Israeli settlers into the area under heavy protection. Israeli forces attack Al-Aqsa Mosque to prevent Palestinians in al-Quds from holding religious ceremonies there. Locals say such raids are unprovoked.

The Israeli troops also stormed the mosque early Monday by using stun grenades and tear gas against the Palestinians at the mosque. Palestinians are extremely angry at these raids, considering them the desecration of the holy Islamic site. Palestinians argue that al-Quds is the capital of a future Palestinian independent state, and that its heritage should remain intact.

The Al-Aqsa compound, which lies in the Israeli-occupied Old City of al-Quds(Jerusalem), is a flashpoint. The location of the compound, known to Jews as the Temple Mount, is the holiest site in Judaism. The mosque is Islam’s third-holiest site after Mecca and Medina in Saudi Arabia. IA/HJL/HRB
