Dementia will cost the world’s economies more than £388 bn this year – or one percent of global GDP – a new report has said. Released to coincide with World Alzheimer’s Day, the study warned the financial harm done by the various forms of the condition was only going to increase.
Experts at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and King’s College London said that if the cost of dementia care was a country, it would be the world’s 18th biggest economy.
And they also say in their World Alzheimer Report 2010 that the number of people with dementia will double by 2030 – and more than triple by 2050. – Skynews
