AJMAN: A drunken man, who watched his wife being raped by his inebriated friend, was sentenced to life by the Ajman Criminal Court of First Instance on Monday.
The friend was also handed life sentence and the court ruled the two be deported and given 80 lashes on completion of their jail terms.The 32-year-old national woman, who has a 12-year-old daughter from a previous marriage, told the court her 28-year-old Yemeni husband returned home drunk late one night and asked her to sleep with him. When she refused, she was dragged to the living room where his 26-year old Pakistani friend was sitting, smoking a cigarette. She said her attempts to break free and run away were foiled and the two pinned her down to the floor.
The friend then raped her while her husband watched the act, smoking a cigarette.In the court, the defendants pleaded guilty and said they were drunk and unaware about what they had done.A defence lawyer withdrew from the case saying he could not defend such an act which was against Islamic teachings and human values.The woman reported the incident to the Sharjah Police who went to the house and collected evidence and also conducted forensic tests to prove her claim. The two accused also admitted to the police that they were in a homosexual relationship.
