BANGKOK: Thailand’s new prime minister has acknowledged that the country’s flood crisis has overwhelmed her government.
In an emotional news conference Wednesday, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra pleaded for mercy from the media and solidarity from the people in battling the relentless waters. She said her administration is doing all it can and trying to be as clear and honest about the threat as possible.
Meanwhile, a poll this week shows that 87 percent the public has no trust in her government’s flood command center. Mixed messages from the government about whether the flooding will strike the capital have left residents confused.Bangkok’s city government urged residents in seven northern districts to move belongings to safe spots. The warning came days after some officials indicated the worst threat had passed.
