NEW YORK: NATO officials on Sunday began investigations into reports that a helicopter airstrike killed 12 children and two women in southern Afghanistan’s Helmand province, according to an American television report.A spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF)told CNN that Afghan and ISAF officials were trying to corroborate reports that two houses in the Nawzad district were struck by missiles that killed the civilians.Meanwhile, ISAF confirmed that an airstrike had occurred in the region in response to attacks on its forces by insurgents, but reported no casualties.If confirmed, it would be the largest loss of civilian lives in Afghanistan this year, CNN said. – APP
