most-wanted-list-goof-up-genuine-error-indiaNEW DELHI : After a global embarrassment, the Indian Government on Wednesday said the inclusion of terror accused Wazhul Kamar Khan in the list of most wanted fugitives given to Pakistan was the result of a “genuine error” by the Mumbai Police.

Indian Home minster said that there was also an “oversight” by the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in not reflecting the information received by it from the Mumbai police. Addressing a press conference a day after the goof up was exposed in the media and facing attack, P Chidambaram accepted it as a “mistake” and taking “responsibility” said the inclusion of terror accused Wazhul Kamar Khan in the list of most wanted fugitives given to Pakistan was a “genuine error”.

“There was a mistake. We are not trying to blame anyone. We take responsibility for it,” said Chidambaram, and added that Wazhul Khan’s name should be deleted from the list. Chidambaram said the information passed on to IB by Mumbai police unfortunately was not reflected in the list of fugitives maintained by the authorities and was overlooked while the list was prepared in March this year. India is expected to convey to Pakistan about the error through the Interpol. Mumbai Police had informed the IB about the arrest in January this year but did not inform the CBI and this resulted in the name being retained by the central agency. – onlinenews
