The old man of Wadi Al Qoor, who shared a special bond with His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, passed away on Wednesday, a day after Shaikh Mohammed visited him in a hospital.
Nonagenarian Mohammed Salem Khamis Al Ka’abi, 108, died in Dubai Hospital where he was admitted following a prolonged chest infection. “He passed away following a cardiac arrest around 3pm,” Director of the hospital Dr Abdul Razaq Al Madani told Khaleej Times.
The story of Al Ka’abi, who used to live in an old house constructed on the directives by Shaikh Mohammed’s father late Shaikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, hit the headlines when Shaikh Mohammed met the old man during one of his tours to reach out to his subjects. The meeting led to the blossoming of a special bond with the father-figure and Shaikh Mohammed ordered a new house to be built for his family. The leader also visited the old man when his wife passed away.
It was on Tuesday that Shaikh Mohammed visited Al Ka’abi on his hospital bed and instructed the hospital to provide special care to the elderly citizen. “He was on ventilator and I don’t think he could recognise His Highness,” Dr Madani who was present at that time said. – Khaleej Times
