Former home secretary Jack Straw has stirred up some controversy with his comments in the wake of the cases of Mohammed Liaqat and Abid Saddique. The men, aged 28 and 27 respectively, were yesterday (Friday) jailed after being found guilty of a number of charges, including rape. They had helped run a sex abuse ring where young vulnerable women were targeted.

The judge dealing with the case said the races of the victims and perpetrators were purely ‘coincidental’, but Mr Straw suggested on BBC Newsnight that there is a ‘specific problem’ where Pakistani men see white females as ‘easy meat’. ‘We need to get the Pakistani community to think much more clearly about why this is going on and to be more open about the problems that are leading to a number of Pakistani heritage men thinking it is OK to target white girls in this way,’ he explained.

The MP for Blackburn added the fact that young Pakistani men have no outlet for their testosterone among girls of the same heritage means they turn to females of other races. In other news, police are set to talk to people on the sex offenders register regarding the death of Joanna Yeates. – Metro
