NEW DELHI: Shabnam Hashmi of Act Now for Harmony and Democracy (ANHAD) has expressed solidarity with Rayana R. Khasi of Kasaragod district in Kerala who received calls from a fundamentalist organisation for not wearing a veil.
In a statement, she said: “ANHAD condemns the fanatic, anti-constitutional and anti-women attempts of issuing diktats.”
Calling the rise of communal and fundamentalist forces in tolerant and progressive Kerala society a matter of grave concern, Ms. Hashmi said there was a need to counter communal hate politics and patriarchy in the State.
ANHAD also condemned the failure of the authorities to uphold democratic rights of Ms. Khasi, who was being harassed since last year.
